On a cliff overlooking Monterey Bay, this residence, with it's large sliding doors, and continuous tile flooring, defines the marriage of interior and exterior. The great room also faces, on the inland side of the room, an interior courtyard that has companion sliders that allow one to see the ocean while sitting in a protected garden. This green space includes a living wall with a water feature. All of the bedrooms have views of the ocean, including the office. A basement wine room is beautifully appointed by the clients, who are experienced vintners. Collaborating with this couple on all phases, but particularly material selection and interior design, was a joy, a model of how the best partnerships between architect, client, and builder can work.
